Also, totally agree re 'sensor-placement'. I've always thought that these bits looked like the sensor "windows", so holding it down makes the most sense.

Agreed; I think that ep5 could have been a more fleshed-out 1 1/2 - 2hr movie, ending with the Maginot landing [lets face it, it wasn't a real crash, it was more bad parking] on Earth, and roll end credits, series done.
